eNPS calculation

Research your employee engagement

The employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) shows to what extent employees are ambassadors for their employer. By performing an eNPS calculation, you map out the percentage of promoters, passives and detractors in your organization. This score can range from -100 to 100, and shows whether employees would recommend your organization as an employer to others. The score therefore provides important information about employee engagement.

Why are internal ambassadors so important?

The employee Net Promoter Score says a lot about the experience of your employees (or the employee experience). Employees who would recommend you as an employer to others experience more intrinsic motivation and are more enthusiastic and engaged. This enthusiasm is also contagious. Not only in teams, but also when recruiting new employees or attracting new customers. Research shows that your own staff is increasingly successful in recruiting new talent these days. This makes the eNPS the most important KPI of your organization.

In short, employees who are ambassadors ensure growth. The employee Net Promoter Score shows how many ambassadors your organization has, and where you can improve!

Why do an eNPS calculation for a strong culture?

Every organization has an employer brand. Both for (new) employees and business stakeholders. Are you seen as a socially responsible and attractive employer?

The employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) provides insight into that employer reputation and how you can improve it. It is also an internationally validated measurement method. Your own employees rate on a scale from 0 to 10 to what extent they would recommend the organization as a good employer. The results then present 3 groups that deserve attention: detractors, passives, and promoters.

KPI of sustainable employability

Attraction of new talent

2.5x more revenue

Intrinsically motivated employees relatively generate 2.5 times more revenue

39% of staff works harder

39% of employees would work harder if they were happy in their job position

59% less staff turnover

By paying attention to employee happiness and satisfaction, you will retain talent

How to do an eNPS calculation

To do an eNPS calculation, you only need one question: "How likely is it that you recommend [organization] as a good employer to others?" You can send this question to your employees in 15 seconds. They then give a score on a scale of 1 to 10. If employees give a 1 to 6, they are detractors. Employees who give a 7 or an 8 are considered passives. If they give a 9 or 10, those are your ambassadors.

To calculate the eNPS, the tool automatically makes a calculation: the % promoters - the % detractors = the eNPS. So imagine, 60% of your employees rate you as an employer a 9 or 10, then you have 60% ambassadors. If 15% give you a 1 to 6, you have 18% detractors. Your eNPS is then: 60% - 15% = 45.

To offer some perspective: in 2019 the average eNPS in the Netherlands was 42. Not there yet? Don't stress, there are countless ways you can improve your eNPS. Starting to measure employee satisfaction is one of them!

60% ambassadors - 15% critics = an eNPS of 45
