Factors of Engagement: 3. Strategy and Goal alignment

For employees, Strategy & Goal Alignment is a determining factor in their level of engagement and job satisfaction. It is particularly important that strategies and goals are known and understandable. An employee will feel more attracted to an employer when the business strategy and general objectives match their individual objectives. Clarity about the division of tasks and understanding how individual work contributes to the bigger picture are also important.

It is one of the 15 drivers in the scientific Employee Happiness Model®.

Strategy & Goals, together with the drivers Internal Communication, Vision & Core Values and Reputation & Brand, form the theme ‘Organization’ in the Employee Happiness Model and the measuring method of 2DAYSMOOD.

This theme is about the core of the organization and how the company uses the same clear communication message and style for all internal and external stakeholders. This message must be coherent, credible and represent the values of the company. Positive influences on employee engagement

  • Aligning the individual goals with the general business strategy
  • Employees who understand how their work affects the overall success of the organization
  • Clarity about required resources for tasks
  • Employees who are confident in their work and feel that they are doing well

Negative influences on employee engagement

  • Uncertainty about tasks and roles (ambiguity about roles)
  • An unclear strategy
  • When the strategy created by the top of the organization does not reach the individual employees.
