Factors of Engagement: 5. Leadership

Leadership is a determining factor for employee engagement and job satisfaction. Managers and supervisors are responsible for effectively managing the various building blocks in the organization. They serve as a source of inspiration for others to work hard, thus cultivating a successful corporate culture. In addition, they must convert “vision and core values” and “strategy and goals” into actions that are understandable for employees.

It is one of the 15 drivers in the scientific Employee Happiness Model®.

Improve employee engagement through drivers

It is important to gain insight into what makes your employees enthusiastic, happy and productive. What are their motives? You can find this out by scanning the 15 factors of engagement. Positive influences on employee engagement

  • Leaders who are real role models and lead by example
  • Managers who encourage a shared vision
  • Employees with rights who are allowed to participate in decisions
  • Leaders who are open to new ideas and thus welcome change and innovation

Negative influences on employee engagement

  • No freedom or room to make mistakes
  • Lack of communication about (the importance of) changes
  • Managers who do not behave in the way they represent themselves
  • Employees who do not trust their team of leaders
